Always getting the odd one now and then, as the coffee machine at work won't take them.

Thats happened to me as well with the machines at work but I note that the ones I find on the beach nearly always get sent straight thru and also the asda money machine would not take them last time, dunno why that would be.

Apparently the copies are very good (I've had the odd one). The main way to tell the fakes, is the lack of writing on the edge. (so they say)

A man was arrested in an industrial unit somewhere in London a few months back. He was surrounded by presses and hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of fake £1 coins . From the documents recovered the police estimated he had produced around 7 million pounds worth of fake £1 coins. Havent heard any more about it in the press since .

This was on TV this morning. Apart from the edge lettering, if you turn the obverse so the Crowned head is uppermost, the reverse is off centre instead of in line.

Now you say it, i'll remember that now.
If you are talking of millions of pound coins. how the hell do they get rid of such large numbers into the community.
Its a bit suspect if you went a brought a new car with a barrow load of pound coins. :g43: Honest Sir, ive been saving pound coins for 20 years to save up and by this new car from you. :g42: :g42:

About 80 yearsa ago in Edinburgh there was a pensioner who had worked in the metal trade - he eked out his pension by turning out a couple of quids worth of two bob bits every so often - same metal as the real things, really good dies (he may even have been a die cutter). The polis said that the only thing wrong with them was that he had miscounted the mills around the edge and there were one or two too few!!

NCP parking meters take them no problems. We get a lot of £1 coins and we either just bank them or into parking machines. If they are bagged the bank does not check them at all. :hahaha:

Trouble is, the people get blamed for passing them on, but in my view it is the fault of the mint for not making them sufficiently difficult to forge. That is after all, part of their job!
