GPS for IPhone

Post by Sawyer »

For those who carry an IPhone this app is probably one of the best I used for recording finds. The app GPS2OS will give you a 10 figure grid reference with the ability to send info via txt message or email. It's priced at 69p

If you carry find bags with you and a pen it's useful I find to jot the 10 figure grid reference on the bag and pop in the find for later. Depends how thorough and accurate you want to be.

There are free 8 figure grid reference apps on the store but don't have the email or txt feature.

Hope that may help some people :g58:

Thanks Sawyer :g50:

I've just downloaded Find Plotter, I've only tried it indoors so far, it seems to work ok.

It's £0.69 and gives the co ordinates in lat/long not NGR, Req's Android 2.2 or better;

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... find&hl=en

Does anyone know of a similar app that can store images, find spot map and give the co ordinates as NGR please?

I use "GPS Kit" on my iPhone. I think it cost me about £5 or £6 ? but well worth the money. It features most things you would want including tracking maps which also includes distance, time, tag photo's etc. As with all GPS apps everything is downloadable and is neatly stored on a desktop file. But more importantly you don't need to be connected to the internet or WiFi to use it which is probably the most important thing for me because I'm PAYG. It does, however, take a lot out of the battery even when it's working in the background so I have to make sure I'm fully charged before using it.

I'm using Anquet but I've already invested a fair bit over the years in various maps for the PC, and it was just a simple process to migrate to my andriod. I read this week that the OS have jumped in by producing iOS. The prices are fairly low but as far as I can see no andriod yet.

Register with Google Play phil they seem to be the main resellers of Andriod apps. But check that there is not a free version before you pay for any app.. I paid £87 inc. £10 top up from Phones4You, I've a EE pay as you go Sim for my Ace. What they do not tell you is to turn off the 3G/4G because it will eat your credit. I use the house WiFi to down load stuff to the phone, including a couple of detecting books. I also have the free kindle app, and look out for the free books to download.

Thanks, I've looked at;

Mobile network options

They are;

GSM/WCDMA (Auto mode)

GSM only

and WCMDA only

Are these the 3G/4G?

I clicked on them and it said ''Unable to change networks during data service activated''

It's all good fun :g42:

I've now downloaded GPS Essentials for Android, it's free.

It saves images separately from waypoints though which is a bit disapointing for me as I was hoping it could export a KML file with images embeded.

It will display the find spot as a NGR though which is handy (need to select Position Format as OSGB36 in settings).
