2011 UK satellite/aerial images....

Post by omegamike »

Just thought I would point out that the web site below has brand new up-to-date 2011 Aerial/satellite images of the UK, well, my fields in Kent anyway. I presume the remainder of the uk has been updated as well? Shows lots more crop marks for me to investigate not sure where the web site gets it's images from? I checked Google Earth but they are still pre 2011 images (2007) so it's not from there!

Great site Mike. Shows some of the markings on 'the' fields have disappeared and others have come to light on neighbouring territory. I can't wait for harvest :g50:

Superb bit of kit! I can mark points in a field, instant list of 10digit NGR`s....... stick a marker in the field then the club members can record accurately & easily... top spot!!

It's not just the fact it's a good site, as good as google earth. It also has the most up to date satellite images. It has helped me locate a substantial enclosure on new farm land that even the farmer was surprised to see. Which ultimately led to a new permission and a very excited farmer who's as keen as I am to see what comes out of the field!.

I always use that site for grid references. It's excellent indeed.

Thanks for the replies gents. I'm always one to help out and share information to help out other detecting enthusiasts but I have to say 4 replies to a bit of top notch and valuable information is a poor response. Makes me wander why I bothered ? Brand new satellite images are about as rare as rocking horse poop - don't people use these kind of images for research any more? I think I will keep it to myself next time!!. :g64: :g42:

I took a look at my area, the aerial images are well out of date by 10 years at least. But the Birds eye view is a winter one from early last year. I note that the Birds eye is not a complete cover yet.
Deus, XP GMP, CS 4Pi, Canon 450d, Garmin GPS, PAS Self Recorder.
Hamster Count 55. Then so far this year 0 to the Deus.
Denarius Count 7. Then so far this year 0.

For my area it is at least 12 years out of date so not much use. "Where's the Path" is better for me at the moment.

Thanks for the link. For the purposes of locating a grid reference on a field it doesn't matter, but the dates of the images seems to vary. Where I live the aerial shots are only a couple of years old, more up to date than Google. The birds eye views are quite a lot older, and the age varies with the orientation of the picture.

Very handy tool though :g50:
