N.E.W.S.
Sorry to say, owing to no available land, there will be no N.E.W.S. dig this sunday and until further notice.
I would also like to express my sincere apologies to everyone that turned up last week, for all the "green waste"
on most of the fields, if that was not bad enough, the fields without green waste were covered in buttons.[ shoddy perhaps]

Re: N.E.W.S.
Thank you for the apology but I think someone else is to blame for the "green waste" we have been on club digs in that area and had the same problem.

Re: N.E.W.S.
is the farmer aware of what is being spread on the land as so called "green waste" , as some farmers hire contractors to do this job as well as paying for the waste in the 1st place .
Re: N.E.W.S.
i still had a good day, 43 buttons, a 1918 silver six pence, half a silver spoon with hall marks and a few bits. only went on 2 fields, didnt bother with the others, GREAN WASTE.

Re: N.E.W.S.
From what little I know on GREEN WASTE, the farmer (I think ) is paid by the goverment to have this spread on his land free of charge and this spreading is done by contractors = so the farmer doesn't have to do anything except put the money in the bank

You think the government would tightly regulate Green waste after all if you were caught contaminating hundreds of acres of land with materials which can contaminate the water table and local water courses for hundreds of years you would be locked up or at the very least face a significant fine they is a link between aluminium and demenia as this metal breaks down and oxidises in the soil any crops will absorb the chemical compounds and it will be passed to us through our food and our childrens food given the time span metals and plastics take to break down they actually qualify as toxic waste so the government in a bid to beat its landfill targets have rebranded land fill waste green and are now polluting the environment hypocracy or what?

Re: N.E.W.S.
So true, but I think this stuff contains even worse toxic materials the soil stinks and there are large patches of oils and other chemicals, we are told to get rid of our batteries carefully but there are chewed up batteries in this stuffRedfoot wrote:You think the government would tightly regulate Green waste after all if you were caught contaminating hundreds of acres of land with materials which can contaminate the water table and local water courses for hundreds of years you would be locked up or at the very least face a significant fine they is a link between aluminium and demenia as this metal breaks down and oxidises in the soil any crops will absorb the chemical compounds and it will be passed to us through our food and our childrens food given the time span metals and plastics take to break down they actually qualify as toxic waste so the government in a bid to beat its landfill targets have rebranded land fill waste green and are now polluting the environment hypocracy or what?

Hi Alan sorry to here you had green waste on your last outing
yorkshire searchers have dropped on 3 farms this year with bad green waste
getting worse every year only after i had paid the farmer and
comfronting them later did they admit to having green waste on there land
1 farmer still completely denied it even tho is field was completely undetectable
Farmers are paid £108 per acre of green waste spreaded on there land
Most green waste at Selby/stillingfleet/selby common/riccal/ comprises of broken down chipboard
panels and rubbish dragged up from the stilling fleet canal and metal connectors
off cabinets and draws mixed in with chipboard and farmers that accept green waste
also spread human excrement on the fields known to farmers as cake as it is cooked
to 70 degrees before been spread on fields for health and safty reasons
this is also took from the sewerage works at stillingfleet next to the caravan site
one farmer told me .

Re: N.E.W.S.
What's wrong with just incinerating all this rubbish ?
We have burnt it for millions of years with no problem.
With today's tech, filters would clean the smoke/toxic fumes.

Re: N.E.W.S.
Hi Sodbuster,
Thanks for your post regarding the Green Waste problem in the Selby area, this really is going to be a problem, its very depressing,
not only for us , but the environment as a whole.
I wonder if friends of the earth or the like, could get interested in this problem [ remember swampy]
don' t want to sound anarchist , but this issue needs to get on the national media "soon".

Re: N.E.W.S.
You would think English Nature and the Environment Agency would be sorting this situation out before it becomes an environmental disaster the local authorities surely cannot sanction this practise

Instead of mithering about "who should be doing something" get off yer a*se and take action. Report piles of Contaminated Green Waste to the Environment Agency, they are obligied to act. Contact your MP. Write to the local paper. Don`t wait till its too late.

Where's FID & NCMD these say that they represent our hobby on the national stage surely they are doing something do you not think it is time they told us all what action they propose to take to protect the hobby which finances them?jcmaloney wrote:Instead of mithering about "who should be doing something" get off yer a*se and take action.
