FUND RAISER DAY DIG FOR BIKER

Post by coiltothesoil »

hello all

so Im thinking of doing a sunday dig to raise money for a biker i no who's had a real bad crash and is looking at a long road to recovery, hes currently in basstelaw worksop hospital in a semi conscious state!
it was me who found him road side on my way to detecting one sunday morning a few weeks back in a bad way
leaving his mrs and kids at home so things cant be easy for them at all
iv plenty land to go at and was just wondering how much acreage you all think to get 100 people on? do u think 150 acres would be enough
may be charging £10 pp and holding a raffle on the day blagging what we can for prizes obviously would give the farmer a cut to keep him happy
iv not spoke to him properly about it yet but think he would be more than happy, it will be somewhere in the next month or 2, any 1 in yorkshire area welcome would need names putting forward for numbers
but think its for a good cause adies family get some help towards his re ablitation and we get a day out swingin.....any ideas or help would be great....dig will be in the doncaster area on a sunday in the next month or 2 hopefully
cheers
norfe

Great idea in my humble...... 1 acre per head is plenty for a day dig.
If your pitching it to a farmer 3 or 4 smaller digs of 20/30 people will probably sit better....would you fancy 100 strangers wandering around your house & garden??
Also consider over 50 is a seen by Natural England/DEFRA etc as a "rally" so if he`s under the myriad of stewardship schemes (hence payments) you would need a derogation from NE.

Afraid not.
If your farmer receives stewardship payments (most do) then you need to tread carefully or he could lose lots of ££££`s over his entire holding.
As I said 3 or 4 smaller events would be better both for your stress levels and the farmers..... doing digs sounds easy...until you actually do it which explains why not many do digs let alone large events! :g58:

Why not try the One Show and get some real backing!
perhaps the stewardship will then get organised and help
Good for true detectorists and the good they do really do!

And a very worthy cause

I will be interested if you get the go ahead, especially it being a charity event, keep us posted, I agree with JC a few smaller events is easier to manage, even 30 people is a lot to have wondering around the countryside on a Sunday morning, and the land needs to be suitable, but this bad weather might have prolonged the season :g58: good luck :g50:
