Any Detectorist's in Folkestone up for a meet?

Post by LittleJohn »

Hi all just looking out for fellow Detectorist's within the Folkestone Area in Kent as I'm new to the hobby and would love to gain info on machines and areas to dig etc and what to find, my only issue is I do not not own transport so I am limited to where I can go, I also work F/T so I have limited time to dig and explore sadly, magically I have most of this month off which is good due to starting out on this new venture so it could be an ideal time for me to meet up with fellow MD.

Thanks

Well I have my new machine namely the Garrett Ace 250 and had a little go in the back garden much to my wife's amusement along with the kids asking what the heck am I doing digging up the garden, set myself to go out this weekend along the Seafront but depending on the weather as it's suddenly warmed up I may have to venture away from any loony March Time bathers but none the less it shall be an interesting day out for us all and a Big learning curve for me testing out my new machine.
Hope to find a few bits worth keeping but if not at least I can go home with a smile that I cleaned up the Beach from Metal Trash at least in some small way :superhappy:

Keep Searching...................Bleeeeep Bleep......... :g30:

Good luck Little John and have a great time on the beach (glad to see you have a permit!)
Any time spent in the first few weeks/months learning this hobby is time well spent. I started my brother in the hobby with a trip to Weston SM...........loads of trash so we went to Burnham..........he got well excited digging coins and bullets and was immediately hooked.
I hope you can link up with fellow beepers in your area as you can learn so much in a relatively short time from those with experience.

Hi scratchiemm and yes I hope to have a good time learning my machine and the different tones also the Pin-Pointing, Permit and Permission wise I am contacting all I can think of locally and then from there I will start seeking Permission's from local land owner's.
It would be nice to get out and about further than Folkestone but sadly without transport I would be stuck to Public Transport and that cuts down my search choices, but none the less I'm fully confident that Folkestone will hold back a little something for me :)

Well the beach was nice for the kids but all I dug was trash and not a single coin :g51: and after 2hrs all the members of public started to fill the beach so I called it day!

Ah well you can't win them all, might try and have another go tomorrow seeing as lots of people went down there today

2nd day MD down the Sandy Beach at Folkestone Seafront today and again not a great day as the beach was packed out with our Random March weather :g7: but managed to find an area where I was out of the way and managed to find an old Button and a Lump of Silver or Aluminum not sure? Other finds where lots of scrap trash like Big Fishing Hooks, Wire Spikes, Lead Weights etc and lots of surface broken Glass to which a lot of Mums kept asking what I had found and told them my item's and all pleased to know I was doing some good for the Kids and Adults making the Beach a little bit safer for all even though I found nothing of real interest, off down to another part of the Beach tomorrow to have another go as I'm determined not to give up on this hobby even if I am limited to the Beach for now pending other site digs with my friend at a future date.

Thanks to all for the replies and support so far

Well today I had a go between the Leas Lifts and the Mermaid Cafe on the Shingle Beach, it was hard work but managed to find a 1962 One Shilling coin and £1 Coin and lots of mashed up can trash.
So I called it a day and walked off back down to the Sandy Beach where it was absolutely empty but did not find anything other than 3 big lumps of rusty metal objects that I could not even lift out of the Sand sadly :g48:

Not sure where to go next so just planning my next trip out.

The Beach is not producing much in the way of finds recently mainly Brass, Aluminum and Copper and the odd spendable coin here and there. Going to save all the metals and take them to the scrap dealer for a couple of quid hopefully :g50:
