Garrett AT Pro International advice and tips

Post by Iron Giant »

Hi all,

I have had my Garrett AT Pro International for 4 weeks now and so far i am very pleased with its performance on the beach and inland.

I would love to hear from any AT Pro users with wisdom to share to assist me in getting the most out of this machine.

I am particularly impressed with the depth acheivable in pro mode, my 2nd outing with the detector was at a rally and i found an 1812 George III one penny token at a depth of 18 inches! I know it is a fair sized coin but i had the machines sensitivity set 2 down from max and almost gave up digging but it popped out in my last spade full :g58:

I have been detecting since September last year but i am yet to find a hammered coin :g5b:

Many thanks

It doesn't sound as though your doing anything wrong just swing low and slow.
Hammered coins you will find them if you pass your coil over them and there, there in the first place
hammered total 2014= 13
hammered total 2015= 3

Thanks for the reassurance, it is good to know too that you have found 11 hammies in the past 4 months with the AT Pro because in my club the guys finding all the hammered seem to be using Minelabs, the odd Fisher and Deus!

Seems like only a matter of time before my coil is over one of my own :g46:

Best way to go with the AT Pro I found was 0 discrimination (all metal) in pro mode and sensitivity down to bars from full and you won't miss much - good all weathers machine (especially if you have the Gray Ghosts headphones) Just heavy I found after a days swinging it... :g58: :g50:

Thanks guys, I will follow the advice and see how it goes.

Do you know whether there is any truth in ground balance tuning? I read on a forum somewhere that you can auto GB first of all then either manually reduce the GB by 5/6 points to tune the AT Pro more toward coins or raise it 5/6 points to tune it towards gold.

Thanks for the PM ustwo :)

"yes you can do that BUT it will make the machine more spitty, you're robbing Peter to pay Paul, I wouldn't !"

The above is a statement from Nigel at Regton when i asked him a similar question on behalf of ustwo :g50:

Thanks of the advice, i'm scanning an old greyhound track on the weekend which has produced some very nice pre decimal and jewellery finds previously :g62:
Will try some tips and post the spoils :g50:
