Probably a daft question

Post by Mr daydream »

Hi guys just a quick question on your finds, if you find a coin that is bent or any item that is misshapen'ed in any way do you try to flatten it or re-shape it or do you leave it as you find it ?

With a coin it depends on it's potential value, and how much it is bent.
If it is bent too far, it may also be cracked. In that case it's probably better to leave it.

As far as how to straighten a coin, there is plenty of advice on here, and elsewhere.
Youtube for instance.

I've only found one hammered which was bent double. I left it as it was.

Thanks for the reply, Is there an easy guide that most people use ? I know value isn't the be all and end all but it would be nice to have a browse through the value of the coins and some of the history of them , theirs so many sites when i try to search.

Thanks.

This was written many years ago and should only be done on something you don't mind making a mess of. Sometimes a coin was bent deliberately, like a love tokened sixpence, these have a story to tell and I would not do anything to them. Its best to get them recorded first with the PAS. But have a read of this http://www.ukdetectornet.co.uk/hammered.html
