Hi all, I am going to widemouth bay in Cornwall next week and i'm going to do my first beach detecting, do you guys have any tips for detecting on the shore as opposed to inland? I am very new and I wondered how different it is, do I need to set my detector differently? I use a Garret Ace 250.

Thanks

Chambee

You will most likely find that as you get to wet sand, your machine will become unstable due to the salt and water content. I'd say stick to the dry sand and avoid detecting in and around other people enjoying the beach. Most detect early morning or late evening when the beach will be clear of folks. Remember to clear any rubbish you find and fill your holes and just enjoy yourself.

Yes, exactly right, having a water proof coil does not indicate a detector which is suitable for use on wet sand.

Thanks for the reply, i will try and hit the beach later in the day when it is quiet, I will also avoid the wet sand!

Dont dismiss wetsand out of hand,Yes the detector will become unstable but you can reduce the sensitivity, try it .
You just might hit something nice.
