Hi all
Just introducing myself as a new member to the forum
Currently living in Australia for last 9 years, about 2 hours drive south of Perth,
Originally from the UK around Preston Chorley area
No stranger to a metal detector I have been prospecting for last 6/7 years here in the west Australian goldfields, never managed to find my fortune but always seem to find a few smaller nuggets on most trips
it’s a great hobby I enjoy the bush, the open space, camping and great company with like minded people.
Something ive talked about for a couple of years is trying my hand with the magic wand back in England. I have done a small amount of research but would like some recommendations for some good books on roman poss even Saxon populations road maps ect ect in or around Lancashire and surrounding areas.
My current detector is a minelab GPX4500 awsome on the gold fields but probably not much chop on the benign soils in England. So was thinking about the minelab CTX 3030 not sure if this is a good tector for use in UK or would you recommend something else
Anyways really just saying hi, hope to be in the UK this coming summer for a swing
Kind regards
Mick

My parents lived in Leyland before moving to where I was born.....Lime Grove in Chorley....which is close to your school.mick b wrote:hey Dave its a small world buddy I grew in in Chorley went to Holy Cross school then moved to Leyland before moving out here
We left Chorley and came here to South Australia when I was eight.

Hi Mick. Welcome to the site. I would expect that if you were to detect here with a ctx3030, you may do rather well. They are a top machine and I don't think that you would find it coming up short here!! Good luck!
Professionally aimless wandering.

Re: hello from downunder
G'day Mick, nice to see a fellow Aussie here :P
I can't really offer much advice since I'm yet to get my coil on the ground out here myself.
As far as detectors go, the popular choices seem to be the XP Deus and Garrett machines, a CTX would be great but if your only going to use it over here it might be a bit overkill.
One bit of advice I can give is that detectors are cheaper in Aus, but they have a much larger range of VLF machines than what seems to be readily available in Aus.
