Ok, so I am looking to purchase my first detector, and have been looking at all options, reviews etc. abd would like some advice.
I know there is so much choice, and that everyone tends to have brand loyalty etc, but I think I have narrowed my decision down to three -
Garrett Ace 250 (new) - has very favorable reviews and good as a beginner MD
Fisher F4 (not sure if this can still be purchased new?), again, seems to have good reviews, but not so easy to find in the UK?
Whites XLT (secondhand) - from a couple of threads here on the forum, this seems to be a good machine to learn on??
Am I in the right sort of area
I have a max of £350 to spend.
Remember that I have never used a metal detector in anger, so I am looking for something I can learn the basics on over the next year or so.
Thanks in advance,
First Detector thoughts

Re: First Detector thoughts
Keep it simple with your first, then when you've mastered it, move up.
XLT has a myriad of controls, but you can start in the presets and then start tweeking. Be patient and you'll get one for 200 or less.

Re: First Detector thoughts
The Ace 250 is a good starter detector. Have a chat to Nigel or one of his team, at Regtons, and ask for their advice.
They will be totally honest with you, but, please remember there are plenty of reliable dealers you can ring.

Xp adx150 is simple to use and can be picked up for less than £300. Also can be used with wireless headphones. I had great finds with mine although it does struggle with cut halves and quarters. Goes nice and deep working on a low frequency.
I used it as a step up to the deus ( got used to the tones)

Thanks for your input guys.
Evo, I've now had a look at a few reviews of the ADX150, it looks like a good machine also.
OGJ, I will give Regtons a call.
Cheers

Which ever machine you go for, do remember that Regton can supply
a short bottom shaft to accommodate youngsters, and anyone who is
vertically challenged.
