Hi,
I read and understand metal detecting in scotland is a bit different that uk.
PAS don't exist in scotland ? But Who is the FLO who manage west-hilghlands (or eas- highland, or borders) ?.
If i understand, all of finds must be to declare to the Treasure trove ?
however, for find permissions, we will must ask owner and farmer directly ?
Have you advice or recommendation for a "stranger" like me ?

hi there. I'm a scot (tho live in South east now, but did a lot of detecting in Scotland. there are no flo's in Scotland. everything you find with the exception of Victorian and modern coinage, is declarable. as for permissions, there are very many scheduled monuments dating bronze age to 20th century mining works. you need to do a lot of research. the west highlands you need to contact crofter associations, but be prepared for completely blank days as there has never been a lot of occupation

Re: Detectind in scotland
Thanks you coreservers for all advices.
It's truly sad if there are not FLO in scotland but I will try to find "crofter associations"
It's not a problem for blank day...it's the game , but we will pass on the Border and East scotland too (and england too**)...so maybe try here.
** we go on scotland with a van, from south of france ! Just a long loooong road trip
