Metal Detecting Clubs
Most towns and cities will have an active metal detecting club. Usually these will meet once a month in a small room somewhere, often in a room in a pub or association club.
They will discuss current issues, normally have some sort of competition to find the best coin and finds found since the last club meeting and some, but not all, arrange days out for detecting. They are normally very social affairs and it would be very helpful for the beginner to go along to his local club to learn more about the hobby and the get advice on the right detector for you.
You can find where your nearest metal detecting club is by:
a) calling in at your local information office
b) taking a look at the lists at http://www.ukdetectornet.co.uk/index.php?id=78 or http://www.ourpasthistory.com/metal/?c= ... ting-Clubs or http://www.ncmd.co.uk
As a footnote it may be worth pointing out that if you have several near you then check them all out as clubs differ greatly with regard to what they offer new members.
