The NCMD article is great - I'll take it along to my MP when I visit him.

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
Better late than never....from a local Leicestershire farm
Large pile of “mashed” MDF with alloys & plastics in.
This gets used as bedding (mixed with hay/straw) to soak up the waste, that gives you this….
This is left to rot for a while then spread along with all the plastic & metallic waste. All the “bits” in the pictures are either plastic coated MDF, plastic waste etc etc.
A two hour detecting session yielded over 100 targets…….
As you can see some of it isn`t “small” !
Furthermore I have my concerns that the adhesives/toxins in the MDF will leach into the soil & crops grown in it. Nice things like Formaldehyde!!

Feel free to utilise any of the pictures in the fight!!

Unfortunately the date I have been given to see my MP is not till 7th June ... but at least that's more time to amass evidence. Armed with the NCMD article and hopefully other evidence he could decide to join the Crusade over this and maybe even raise a question in the house independently.

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
stu, we must pool all our info, i will get you copys of the letters i have had from my mp and the environmental agency, shame we cant put some sort of pack together that if anyone wants one we can print it off to help stop everyone having to do all their own leg work, if we could do this themn we might see a greater amount of people getting involved.StuE wrote:Unfortunately the date I have been given to see my MP is not till 7th June ... but at least that's more time to amass evidence. Big article in Word maybe? Remember any letters would need personal info removed unless the writer consents...Data protection & such!

Was just thinking that myself John
I was planning on putting the NCMD article in the Word magazine in the June 1st edition, images and any other info could be included.
The pages could be printed out or an hyperlink to the article pasted into an email

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
Help yourself to my snaps. I`ve got the farmers agreement to take a bag full of the MDF mash to take home & sort..might give a factual idea of ratios. He`s fairly bothered about the plastics & the size of some of the alloy bits, purely because his cattle could either ingest the plastic & cut themselves open on the alloy/wire parts. He has spoken to the supplier and sent me this handy link......

Now I haven`t found a definition of "clean" yet........but hopefully I will!
Also some useful names/potential contacts on the Trade Advisory Group.......

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
That's a good point John, although this stuff may get spread onto ploughed fields they do go through a crop rotation, so eventually they'll end up with their livestock on such fields, if they have a mixed economy farm, or they change from cereal to pastoral later on. Whichever way you look at this stuff it will be there for years to come.....and that's no good for anyone! The vet bills alone should be an incentive to stop this rubbish being spread out.
