Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
Went out looking for land for the Club, lots of the farmers said they had contaminated green waste (CGW) on their land.
Three said we could go on, checked one farm and it was riddled with it, still to check the other two.
It was suggested to me that some fields might have little green waste on and might be detectable.
So I am thinking of doing the 10 square metre test, counting the number of CGW item's and working out the CGW per square metre figure to see if it is true and for a figure to put to the Club members to let them decide if we should give it a go.
A recent test by UKDN (the first test in the country!?) came up with a figure of 0.8 CGW items per square metre.

The way things are going, we may end up offering a service to farmers to remove excess rubbish for them?

i was working by the local green waste site yesterday - i saw at lest 5 loads go out in an 1.5 hrs each with at least 20 ton on, as they drove by i could see all the aluminium and plastic shining in the sun, shame more are not getting involved to stop this,Puffin wrote:The way things are going, we may end up offering a service to farmers to remove excess rubbish for them?

Is it being put in the wheely bins by the householders or in the end product by the green waste merchants?

Here is a link to the Contaminated Green Waste article which can be emailed to your MP or other persons who might help get it stopped.

Barnacle, Sorry to differ, but, up until now Suffolk Coastal have allowed ungraded material to flow freely from "green bins" ? and skips, evidenced by the type of objects found e.g. bbq. left overs(still welded to the foil), cutlery, drink cans, sauce packaging and, of course sanitary items(uncooked natually).

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
your not differing, we have the same here from the green bins everything goes in and everything gets mulched on the fields but the big problem in the birmingham area as well as the green bins, is what seems to be the drop in centres for comercial waste, colin wrote:Barnacle, Sorry to differ, but, up until now Suffolk Coastal have allowed ungraded material to flow freely from "green bins" ? and skips, evidenced by the type of objects found e.g. bbq. left overs(still welded to the foil), cutlery, drink cans, sauce packaging and, of course sanitary items(uncooked natually).
if 1000 council houses are refurbed all the mdf kitchens door strips hinces you name it it gets shredded and on the fields.
its a big problem wherever the waste is from the results are the same, another field contaminated forever.

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
problem is dave someone has to flog it if i dont try to do my bit then i would always regret it, and we were hoping that the acorn would grow into an oak tree but seems most are not worried about the contamination.Donnydave wrote:So has nothing at all been done or said about all this metal pollution still going into our fields I have a feeling we are flogging a dead horse here?

Re: Detectorists against Green Waste Campaign!!
Hi Guys
After this holiday weekend is over, I will bulk email everyone on here to bring their attention to this again.
I think this needs EVERYONE to write to their MP's.
