why not more help?

Post by the barnacle »

Following on from a point made in a thread i was wondering why you think more are not getting involved with this growing problem, that may ruin our clean countryside, contaminate our food and least of all finish detecting as we know it,

i am sure my mp must think i am barking mad as i am the only one from staffordshire to contact him and yet we have several of the largest clubs and a glut of detectorists in the area, :g43: it would of been nice if when we next spoke he says i am not the only one to be concerned.

i have spoken to the Environment agency again and i will be having a meeting with them soon, it would of been good if i alot more would send mails, make calls to back the problem up.

i know about half a dozen people that have worked real hard on this, but we can only do so much - the masses are needed to help change things - i seen another few piles of waste in farm gates today while driving waiting for the crops to come off before its spread.

rant over - for now :g62:

My humble........ apathy. This hobby also has a very high percentage with the "whats the most I can get out without putting in" types in it. Until it ends up on their fields then it will be everyone elses fault for not doing anything!!!

I,m alright Jack :g58: theres none on my fields :g43:
I do not really know I have asked myself the same question, the trouble is if I was asked to point the problem out I would not know where to send them because I only encounter it on the occasional weekend dig?You would think the guys with the problem on their fields would be more proactive?

You have hit the nail right on the head there JC!!
If their beer goes up by a penny there's all hell to pay....but ask them to even sign a petition and it all falls on deaf ears.
I've seen it in one of my local clubs that simply needed to have some club officials elected....the threat of the club closing was just enough to get a few of the older guys
to take on some club-based duties.......but the younger members when the threat of closure was put to them all sat in their seats and nodded their heads and smiled in agreement
but not one of them would give 40 minutes a week of their time to help run the club, and they're always the ones who complain when the club doesn't arrange for a dig at the week-end.
It surprises me that some of them have the intellectual energy to even switch on their computers.....but they'll know all of the technical specs of all of the latest machines and will
rush out to get them! Rant over!!
