I'm not convinced that it's PASLEY family crest on that button, but it's the only one I can find with an arm in armour out of a naval coronet and holding a flag...

That crest and Earl's coronet indicates that this livery button can probably be attributed to one of the TALBOT family Earls...but those after Bertram Arthur Talbot (17th Earl of Shrewsbury & 17th Earl of Waterford) can probably be excluded as they apparently had two crests... Click Here

Earls of Shrewsbury etc... Click Here

I've had a look and a google as its a Surrey find i was looking for TALBOT'S which Surrey connections and I've found this... i know there Barons but as i understand also Earls of Shrewsbury... :g43:

"The Talbot Baronetcy, of Mickleham in the County of Surrey and of Belfast in the County of Antrim, was created in the Baronetage of Ireland on 31 March 1790 for Charles Henry Talbot. He was the son of Major-GeneralSherrington Talbot, son of the Right Reverend William Talbot, Bishop of Durham, and brother of Charles Talbot, 1st Baron Talbot (see Earl Talbot). This branch of the Talbot family descended from the Honourable Sir Gilbert Talbot (died 1518), third son of John Talbot, 2nd Earl of Shrewsbury (see Earl of Shrewsbury). The second Baronet sat as Member of Parliament for Weobly, Rye and Bletchingley. The title became extinct on the death of the third Baronet in 1850."

"Talbot baronets, of Mickleham and Belfast (1790) Sir Charles Henry Talbot, 1st Baronet (1720–1798) Sir Charles Talbot, 2nd Baronet (1751–1812) Sir George Talbot, 3rd Baronet (1761–1850)"

So I'm guessing its one of these guys, interestingly it was only found a few miles away from a old coaching inn favoured by Lord Nelson called the Talbot Inn, I've enjoyed many a pint in there... :g9:

Grateful for an ID on this lovely gilt button found in Ledbury, Herefordshire; appears to depict an archer with some Latin inscription, thanks, Andy.

It's a WYKEHAM-MARTIN family livery button.

Here's proof of what I've long suspected...that some of these family crest example pics are drawn from the description, and without the artist actually seeing the crest, and in this case the martin has been taken as being the ferret-like animal, and not the bird.

This isn't a very good pic of the WYKEHAM-MARTIN crests, but at least both are correct.
The pic is from the the online book "A genealogical and heraldic history of the commoners of Great Britain and Ireland"... Click Here

Hi,

Going through my finds boxes and found this one lurking, it's a bit basic so probably why I didn't post it before but as it's quiet I'm getting round to these little jobs.

Birmingham maker Henry Edwards, gold gilt with simple fleur-de-lis.

Found Gloucestershire, thanks in advance.
