[quote="StuE"]thanks for showing me Jiff but I'm afraid I haven't been able to find out any more for you. What do you reckon it says across the middle?[/quote
No probs Stu. To be honest until I had posted up the piccie I wasn`t aware of writing across the middle. I will have a look under the magnifier later and let you know what I can make out :g50:
"Where are you taking that cow"??
"To the bull"
"Can`t your father do that"??
"No it has to be the bull"!!!!!

It's a county alnage seal similar to this one - http://www.bagseals.org/gallery/main.ph ... emId=20879
Shame there is not more of the inscription remaining. Thanks for showing it Tinner.

Got me there Mark! From the crown I would say it was English. Is the other side a rove disc with rivet stub or are they the inner discs from a four disc cloth seal? Nice clear hand!

Ah - a rove and rivet stub so it is a two disc seal. That hand is very distinctive and should be IDed in time - http://www.bagseals.org/gallery/main.ph ... emId=21736
Thanks
