Identifying Your Archaeological Finds

Tuesday 20th March 12.00pm – 2.00pm

Archaeologist, Angie Bolton, will be at Market Hall Museum, Warwick on Tuesday 20th March to help amateur collectors and excavators identify and record their finds. Whether you’re a gardener, metal detector user or someone who just likes looking down holes in the ground, she can tell you what all those odd bits of pottery and metal you find buried may be!

Angie describes her work; “It is the best job to have, as a Finds Liaison Officer for the Portable Antiquities Schemes. There are not many archaeologists who handle, study and record such a large variety of archaeological finds and then get to meet their finders?!”

Angie is particularly keen to hear from people who use metal detectors. Metal detector users are a valuable source of information to record our past.

Angie will look at finds as long as they have mud on them, she can identify most types of finds and can also advise on cleaning and storage of old objects. She can tell you if your find qualifies as ‘treasure’ under the Treasure Act, and what’s more……….the service is entirely free.
