Tripod attachment problem

Post by Chris Hall »

I have recently bought a Canon Powershot SX HS, together with a Manfrotto 732CY tripod with a 3-way head. This is probably a dumb question, but I can't work out how to attach the camera to the quick-release plate (photos attached). The small red button on the plate is not spring-loaded as my last tripod plate was, so when the screw is tightened the camera ends up at a slight angle to the plate as there is no 'give' in the red button. I feel there should be a small recess on the base of the camera to accommodate the red button. Hope this makes sense! Perhaps the camera and this particular tripod are not compatible. Any ideas please?

What happens if you turn the plate 180 degrees Chris. You can get replacement plates without the red bit. I've had to hack a plate with a Stanley knife in the past to get it to fit a camera, just think a little out of the box. The red bit is to stop high end heavier cameras twisting on the mount, particularly if they have long lenses on. A lot of torq is generated. Does not help with the lower end cameras like the power shots.

Thanks Barry! It all makes sense now. I've managed to remove the red bit by pushing it out from the rear, so all is now well. Thanks to both of you for your responses. :)

I didn't realise that. Very pleased with it anyway. I got it for £80.
