Sid invest in a good table top tripod and a good SD card reader. Then practise, the great thing about digital you can take a shed full of images then pick the best, delete the rest. I've been known to take over a 1000 pictures and only use 10!!!!

i shouldnt see why not, however dont be fooled into thinking the "macro" function means you will be able to get really close, you will probably be able to get a good clear shot from about a foot away from the object depending on how big the sensor is on the camera, for finds photos you are better getting a tripod and setting the camera on timer for pic or getting a shutter cable to stop camera shake and then if the object isnt close enough just crop it in microsoft paint or something like that........if the lens has a thread in the end of it you will be able to buy for a few quid some close up filters, a series of screw in lenses that magnify which in effect get you closer to the object with the outlay of an expensive lens (i use this set up for my finds)...the following link is just an example..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/55mm-Close-Up ... 56485d1352

don't et too close, and use the zoom to get a better pic, it worked gret for me with my old fuji, read the manual and find out how close the inimum focus distance is, but its probably about a foot to 18 inches.

Make sure that the camera will have a cable port first, if not use the self timer button, between 2 and 10 seconds. See if you can down load the indestructables for the camera if you don't have it yet.

The tripod, thats depends on your budget, pound shop or Jessops? What you want is one that enables the camera to point down vertically while still being stable. Jessops will allow you to test in shop before you buy.

get out there and snap away, like puffin says the beauty of digital is if you dont like the shot just delete it, not like the film days...be very careful though, im gonna pass on a word to the wise which someone on here passed to me when i got my camera.......are you listening very carefully???..........photography if you get the bug is a money pit! :g42:
