AXE HEAD wrote:Great stuff Donny. As they say that you can only contact by phone I was going to suggest that everyone with a mobile camera phone take pictures of contamination and then get in touch, BUT then I had second thoughts.
As I have mentioned in earlier posts we don,t want this to turn round and kick us in the nuts. If it gets out that
the metal detecting fraternity Is behind farmers getting grief it could have just as bad an affect on our hobby
as the green waste problem its self.
I agree the last people we want to fall out with is the farmers, we need to ask their thoughts before we go riding in mob handed :g43:

Yeah i fell foul of this on a club dig last year, it was hideous, i ended up contacting DEFRA, i will see if i still have there response and post it.

There is a Biffa recycling plant about 100yards (as the crow flys) at the back of me, all residents were conned when the planning went round they said it was waste paper only everyone opposed it yet it was still built. It takes in all waste from the whole of the county and further afield (recyling waste and dustbin waste), it absolutely stinks on hot days.

Anyway they supposedly recycle 100% of all waste, the recycle waste bags are hand sorted and the dust bin waste goes through a 10 tonne ball mill that smashes everything up.

after that it is all ejected onto a conveyor and magnets pick out the ferrous items, then it is all dumped into a water tank and alledgedly the plastic is floated out. Then other machinery supposedly sorts the remaining non compostable materials which are sent to the power station for burning to create electricity and it all goes throu an anaerobic digester. Then all that is left is sent for composting on fields as a "soil improver". however i have seen the waste as i had a tour of the facility and its far from compostable waste.

its nothing short of fly tipping.

anyway petition signed, i will email it about and post on FB.

Leighton

Checked a CGW field today, found 48 items in a 10 metre square = 0.48 items per square metre. There was multiple signals from bits of iron every sweep but I didn't dig the iron.

The farmer told us they were putting blood from the abattoirs in it now, is that true? :g48:

Must properly, I have in the past spread dried blood on the long herbaceous borders at Wisley Gardens.....
As it was found to be deficient in nitrogen due to much mulching with uncomposted polo pony manure (The uncomposted wood chip content of the polo pony manure, leached out the nitrogen as it started to compost in situ in the herbaceous borders.....)

So basically blood is a good source of Nitrogen..... This is good for leaf and shoot growth...

I don't know if it's in there for sure lee, but have just been looking at this PDF which as you say says it is rich in nitrogen but there are health issues too;
