Long Cross Coinage 1247-79 Help Reqd. Please

Post by Steve Rice »

I am compiling a book on the Long Cross Coinage of Henry III and Edward I - the years 1247-79 - most of you will know it as 'The Voided Long Cross' coinage. They are the pennies with two lines going the full diameter of the coin - North to South and East to West. They were also cut into halves and quarters.

If you have any photos or information of any kind, and you are happy for me to use the images in my publication, could you please PM me.

Any images or info. is really appreciated. Even if I have it already, yours might fill a nice gap somewhere.

Thanks
Steve

Steve

I probably have around 20 or so that I have found over the years, would you like images of them all to see if they are of any interest or are you just collecting images of known items that are a bit unusual? Let me know and be happy to help

Hi I am fairly new to detecting and found this 2 days ago. I have not cleaned it ( only hot water ). Is it of any use to you. Could you offer me a little advice on cleaning it.

Most of the PAS images are copyright free Steve provided they get a mention.

The problem is that the licence is for non commercial work. As I would be receiving payment (although it is likely only to cover the cost of the book and p&p) it is commercial. It was never a money making project. Those who want to make money don't write books on hammered pennies. :g42:

Thanks though and if you can see a way around it please do let me know as it is a good source. :g50:
