Just goes to show, even those quiet fields can have a tiny section holding wonderful stuff. It's just you have to plod out the other 99% of the land with little to show for the hours you put in.

Could have been found with an 80 quid Viking machine. A sobering thought for those who think they need a four-figure detector for success.

On the Thames foreshore the compass 77b has made some very valuable finds over the years and is still in use by some guys .it’s miraculous amongst the junk

Those Gold and Silver Sabres were quite something too. Old Eric Lawes, god rest him, never complained!

So the final price was over 320K. The estimates were a little wayward methinks...but it underlines how strong the market is for quality coins from the period.
