1st year = 0
2nd year = 0
3rd year = 6
4th year = 17
5th year = 35
6th year = 64
7th year = 90
My mentor died of cancer (57), no accurate record for a while after 7th year
I've not had less than 100 a year since 1996
I remember having about 140 in 2003
This is my worse year for yonks, think I'm on 64..ish

Re: Hammered coins
My second ever hammered was an Aethelred II, damaged, which I gave to the farmer.
Re: Hammered coins
Most of my cut halfs etc are found when I'm really keen, early on and when I know i'm on a good site. At other times I miss them as coughs and splutters.....
about 20 hammies to a cut for me..

Re: Hammered coins
For the past 12 years I have found on average 1 hammy a month. This year so far i have found over 180. Mind you I was lucky enough to find a hoard of 170 Henry III coins in June. Just shows you that if a once a week detectorist like me can be lucky enough to stumble over a hoard it could be you next!
Re: Hammered coins
I go metal detecting to firstly uncover the history of our great country, secondly to socialize with friends and thirdly to take in the beauty of the country side and take in clean fresh air. If I had to constantly count numbers I would have to buy an abacus. Happy detecting and pleasant dreams.

Re: Hammered coins
I'm slowly starting to find silver coins now that I know what to listen for on my DFX and T2, so there is every chance that I'll get around to finding a hammered eventually...

Re: Hammered coins
Food for thought.....hammies per year....depends on
the land that you walk over ......multiplied by
days a week you go tecting.......mulitipied by
etc etc........
At the end of the day, we are all rich in sharing a truely unique hobby :!:

Re: Hammered coins
History Hunter, all in all it boils down to one thing, if you want to find a hammered silver, a gold stater, an imperatorial roman silver denari, or anything you care to think about, you have to walk over it to get it.
Re: Hammered coins
Thats not necessarily true as I have found coins in other peoples footprints so they walked over them and missed em  :lol:Lucky Lance wrote:History Hunter, all in all it boils down to one thing, if you want to find a hammered silver, a gold stater, an imperatorial roman silver denari, or anything you care to think about, you have to walk over it to get it.
