i-gatU Travel Tracker Cheap!

Post by Puffin »

I picked up an i-gatU Travel Tracker today, Maplins have for sale for £29 plus change at the moment.

I've got it to geotag my photos, but as has been said before. You could take a clod shot in the field and tag it with the data from this little device. Just be careful not to post a tagged version online. :g62:

Glen, it auto records a route at a set number configurable of seconds between each way point. With the software supplied this can be down loaded via USB, which also charges the battery. All you have to do is sync. the time on your camera with the unit, again the software gives you a time check to work with. All you do is link the photos with the track data on your PC and you then have a geotaged photo. Sites like Photobucket and Flickr will take the embedded Lat and Long to show you the position of the photo on their mapping system. I've a beta programme, that I've down loaded that allows you to position vertical shots, that have been geotaged, on to Google Earth.

Other applications include tracking motors, bikes, walking routes, sports, speed/distance travelled, etc. I'm currently thinking about attaching it to my kite photo rig to record relative height, position etc. Possible small scale mapping applications.

I should say this version is about the size of a box of Ship Matches, 20g in weight.
