I have the older TomTom 500, about 4 years old.
The software is version 7.903. This has the "help me" Life belt icon option on main menu page 1, press this and look for the "Where am I?" option.
Or
touch main screen bottom right, touch the battery/sat strength box top right, this brings up the Sat. strength plus Lat and long.
Or
you can add you location as a POI (point of interest) Main screen, change preference, second screen arrow, page 2 of 7. Manage POIs, Add POI, either set up a POI category or add the POI to an existing category. Second page Add as POI, My Location. You need a POI file down-loader and converter programme. Free to down load via google.
This gives you Lat and long in degrees plus a description like x yards from so and so junction.

That's neat BarryPuffin wrote:touch main screen bottom right, touch the battery/sat strength box top right, this brings up the Sat. strength plus Lat and long.
The max sats it can do is 9 so 7 sounds good reception Dave

Re: Using a SatNav (TomTom One XL) to GPS your finds
Happy to be of service.
The more Sat's the unit picks up the better.
The time the unit takes from "Boot" up to getting the Sat signal "lock on" can take several minutes from a new position. The programme has been designed to say that you where here when you got out of the motor and you turned the machine off. So still thinks you are still there when you get back in and turn the machine back on. If you have moved your position in the mean time, it then has to calculate your new position from the received signals, so the more the better and this takes a little longer, if that makes sense.

Re: Using a SatNav (TomTom One XL) to GPS your finds
I've just tried another reading in the supermarket car park (a bit sad eh ), it was about 10 metres out reading off the GPS Status screen. I think this screen is better than the reading you get when you tap the where am I.
It showed 10 Sats out there & had locked onto 7 of them.

Re: Using a SatNav (TomTom One XL) to GPS your finds
The programme is also designed to "lock on" to the nearest road within 5m I think it is. So the where am I function may be doing this Phil. As you say the status one may be more functional to us as a GPS locator for finds.
